Incumbent County Commissioner Carl Zalak survived a hard-fought campaign to defeat Glen Fiorello in the Republican primary on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Zalak received 11,704 votes, or 58.68 percent, to Fiorello’s 8,240 votes, or 41.32 percent in the two-man GOP-only election.
Zalak still must face write-in candidate Christopher Tarner, whose entry into the race closed the primary to Democratic voters.
No write-in candidate has ever won in modern-day Florida elections.
