-A A +A

Fashion parade

By Michel Northsea

If laughter is good medicine, there should be healthier people in Foxwood Farms because of the Spring Fling Luncheon and Fashion Show last week.

Laughter was often heard as models strutted down the runaway, the center aisle of the community center, in their fashionable attire.

Outfits for the show were pulled together by clever minds, twisting the words normally used to describe a piece of clothing, said Cheryl Gowan, one of the organizers of the annual event.

She was dressed in a “pin-stripped suit” for the show. Her yellow pant-and-shirt combo was accented with pink stripes. Pretty pins were randomly pinned on her outfit to make the “pin” portion of the outfit.

Mary Lou Bowls modeled Bermuda shorts with coordinating eyelet shirt for her walk down the runaway. The Bermuda shorts were blue with maps of the Bermuda area, pinned to her shorts. The eyelet shirt was created by sticking googly eyes to her plain yellow blouse.

A small toy boat hung from the neckline of the “boat neck” shirt worn by Marge Morosko.

How do you turn a regular sweater into a cardigan? Why, by taping greeting cards so that they hang all over the sweater, of course.  JoAnn Potts worn the “cardigan” paired with a blue poodle skirt. The poodle skirt look was completed by pinning a stuffed poodle to the skirt.

For an outfit with ‘raglan” sleeves, “rags” were pinned to the shoulder seam of the shirt worn by Mary Ann Perotta. Her coordinating skirt was of “a-line” styling because of the line of tape running down the length of the skirt. Cut-outs of the letter “A” taped to the line completed the look.

Other models taking fashion to a new level during the show included, Maralyn Chapin, Carolyn Jeanotte, Beckie Brasseuer, Sue Redemann, Myra Hernandez, Carol Vande Velde and Claire Couture.

Not all the fashions modeled during the show came from a play on words.

Evelyn Acker modeled an outfit she had collected from thrift stores and the Quail Meadow community-wide yard sale. Her total ensemble of a sparkly shirt, slacks and gold and silver shoes cost all of $4. Besides the Quail Meadow yard sale, Acker shopped the St. Mark’s Thrift Store for her fashionable finds.

Green Bay Packer fan Sally Black showed her true colors during the show. She was decked out in green and gold without spending lots of green on her outfit that screamed “Go Packers.” Her outfit $5.95 – winning the big game - priceless, said other Green Bay fans.
