Can you believe the month of June is almost gone? Last week was the first day of summer, and now we’re preparing for the 4th of July celebration.

It’s not too late to purchase your ticket for the July 4th party. Call Grace Maguire or Dottie Hefferon if you want tickets. The meal of Lee’s chicken fingers and all the trimmings begins at 1 p.m. at the Clubhouse. There will be music provided by Poppi and R Music 4 You. Let’s come and celebrate this great holiday together.

The QM Birthday Bash was attended by about 50 residents and guests. Angie Bain, from Homosassa, originally from Nashville, entertained us all evening with a great variety of songs. Jim Christensen, a singer and song writer, was also with her. They joined for a special duet. Since this was a “birthday party”, we actually had a resident with us who was celebrating her 93rd birthday! Millie Wilmoth, you certainly don’t show your age – are you sure of your birthdate? Millie’s son, Rusty, from West Virginia, was with her to celebrate this special day. John Guld was the lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing. We all like to watch Nevin and Loretta Bennett on the dance floor. They are very talented. However, Saturday night, Loretta tripped and fell on the dance floor. Word is her wrist is broken. We wish her a speedy recovery.

The Red Hot Fillies of the Meadow had a great day cruising down the river last week. Actually, I guess we went up the river since the Withlacoochee flows North. Thanks to Dixie Marchant for arranging the trip. We enjoyed the tour from Dunnellon with Captain Jon Semmes, of the Singing River Tours. Captain Jon was very knowledgeable about the springs, the water flow and output, the two rivers – the Withlacoochee and the Rainbow. He even entertained us with some original songs which were written by his mother. After the great trip on the pontoon boat, we ventured to the antique stores of Dunnellon. By this time, we were feeling the need to eat, so off we went to Sweetie’s for a delicious lunch.

Notice to all ladies of QM: The location for the July 14 luncheon has been changed to the Ivy House in Ocala. Please call Grace Maguire or Dottie Hefferon to make reservations.
