Tabs being collected for Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville

By Carolyn Slocumb

What happened to July? Isn’t it a month with 31 days? It feels like we just celebrated Independence Day. I guess time flies when you’re having fun!

Do you need a good working computer? Steve Kane still has some to give away! Call Steve if you are interested. These are all in excellent working condition.

Ladies, if you haven’t made your reservations for the “Ladies Luncheon” you still have time! Call Grace Maguire TODAY if you plan to go with us to Sammy’s Italian Restaurant in Jasmine Square. Lunch is this Friday at 11:30 a.m..

Monday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. is the QMBOD meeting at the Clubhouse. This meeting is open to all Quail Meadow residents. If you are interested in what is happening in our community, then plan to attend this meeting. Also, there will be some openings for new board members next year. If you are interested in serving on the board, please contact one of the current board members.

Reminder: There are collection boxes in the Clubhouse for non-perishable food items for Interfaith Ministries. Interfaith distributes food and other items to the homeless and needy in Marion County.

The Social Committee is busy making plans for the coming months. In September get ready to re-live your high school days –we are having a “sock hop” on Sept. 23. Tickets, for a $5 donation, are available now from Grace Maguire. The Sounds of Time will provide music/entertainment for the evening. The fun will begin at 7 p.m.. Snacks will be provided, and of course, you may BYOB.

Have you noticed the large jar with the tabs from canned drinks in the Clubhouse? This is a project conducted by John and Mary Zdarsky. They take the collected tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville. In June they took 16 pounds of tabs to Gainesville.

The tabs were from the collection in our Clubhouse, Interfaith Emergency Services, and Lucky Pet Grooming Company. Remember to save your tabs and put them in the jar at the Clubhouse.

It is with great sadness that I report the death of Lillian Carie. Lil and her husband Tim were members of our community for many years. Tim lost his battle with cancer last year, and Lil’s battle with this dreadful disease ended last week. Lil had gone to Michigan to be with her children a few months ago. Lil served on the QM Board of Directors for several years. She is the person responsible for getting our id bracelets to wear at the pool. We will miss you, Lil.
