Deputies arrested Debra Lemily, the bookkeeper at Saddlewood Elementary School for financial fraud after an auditor identified missing funds from the school's account. Auditors found four checks made payable to Lemily. School officials also discovered Lemily had made false entries in the school's ledger and forged other documents regarding payment to vendors. Detectives have been working with school officials and auditors for approximately a month during this investigation.
School officials and detectives believe Lemily embezzled $5,785.75 during the 2009-2010 school year, and $5,725 during the 2010-2011 school year. Detectives requested Lemily come to the Sheriff's Office to discuss her involvement with the missing funds and she did so willingly. She said she had mostly taken cash and intended to pay it back.
Lemily was arrested and charged with Organized Fraud. Her bond was $2,000.
