    Detectives have identified the body found in the Florida Highlands Thursday as Michael Nichols, 41.

  • Body found in Florida Highlands

    Marion County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes and Evidence Units responded to a wooded area off of SW 105th Avenue in the Florida Highlands on Thursday, March 10, to dig for a body. Detectives focused on the area following leads that developed in an ongoing investigation. The body was located at the scene, approximately 4-5 feet in the earth.

    The Medical Examiner's Office responded to take possession of the body. Detectives are waiting for confirmation on identity and notifying next of kin before releasing additional details on the case.

  • Saddlewood's bookkeeper arrested

    Deputies arrested Debra Lemily, the bookkeeper at Saddlewood Elementary School for financial fraud after an auditor identified missing funds from the school's account. Auditors found four checks made payable to Lemily. School officials also discovered Lemily had made false entries in the school's ledger and forged other documents regarding payment to vendors. Detectives have been working with school officials and auditors for approximately a month during this investigation.

  • Four arrested after armed robbery reported

    Several Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were on an unrelated call in the area of Northwest 44 Street when they learned of a nearby armed robbery and then arrested the suspects.

    Deputies arrested, Joshua C. Nunn, 19, Vondell Antonio Monroe, 18, Charles Goodson, 18, and Tevin Hargrove, 19, last Sunday evening. Dec. 5.

    According to the press release from the sheriff’s office, the victim of the armed robbery told the 9-1-1 call taker the suspects “were wearing dark clothing with everything covered up and had a gun.”
