Music, praise along with ice cream on tap for Aug. 13

By Priscilla Barnett

Come to the Fairfield Village Clubhouse on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. and enjoy good music, good fellowship, and good ice cream…which could well be of the homemade variety that many of us really prefer.

The plans right now do call for homemade ice cream, but that will depend on several variables.

However, there will be good music, good fellowship, and ice cream of some variety to be served after the music that will happen between 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Marv and Mickey Thiele are the ones spearheading the music and praise. Others of us have suggested the ice cream refreshments for several different reasons.

Sometimes, a little bit of encouragement helps folks to “get up and out” to join in a pleasant time that can be very worthwhile.

It is my opinion that when folks sit down and enjoy refreshments together, they have a better chance of becoming convivial.

When I was teaching night college classes back in the late 1990s, I started taking “snacks” for my students because many of them were adults who came straight from work to a class that lasted until 10:30 or 11 p.m.

Anyone knows that if one is hungry, that fact will take precedence over the discipline of the brain.

What I found was that when we sat together at the break, and enjoyed some simple “snacks,” we became a much more cohesive group than just a classroom full of people who were eager to get home.

The result was an offer by the students to “pitch in” and bring items to add to the break time.

We became a group of colleagues who could enjoy each other’s company as well as a group learning some new skills for the work place.

The students were pleased that they were back in school.

They told me about how much the sharing of food had made them feel welcome and a part of a special unit that they came to enjoy.

I confess, I enjoyed teaching more than I had before also. It was a win-win situation.

SO...Why not come out on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. to join in a good time and also enjoy some social time with good ice cream to add to the occasion.

From the “lively place filled with lovely people” called Fairfield Village, I hope to see you there in the Clubhouse to hear the music, join in the singing (if you choose) and enjoy the delight of some delicious ice cream.
