Ladies Christmas lunch

By Barb Dedics

Ladies from Ocala Palms Golf & Country Club recently enjoyed their annual Christmas Luncheon held at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club. Not only was the room beautifully decorated, but the ladies with their festive attire and smiles added to the day.
A prayer of thanks was given by Angie Fischetti, followed by Diane Volko reading a short children’s book entitled The Wonderful Things You Will Be.  Each table setting had a Christmas stocking draped over the chair and a small bag of candies on the table. Keeping in mind the spirit of giving and children, those items were placed in a box to be delivered to several children in Marion County. Kay Negron shared a story of singer Dolly Parton and her poor and humble upbringing in Tennessee. She spoke of the wildfires which destroyed many homes in and near Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the efforts Ms. Parton made to help people recover. If you’d like to read the story, it was recently published in the Southern Living magazine.  The ladies were served a delicious lunch promptly at 12 noon and a to “die for” chocolate dessert.
Local jazz vocalist  Ms. Miranda Madison provided a return performance accompanied by OP Resident and author/pianist Charlie Alexander entertained the ladies with numerous seasonal songs.  Both of these entertainers share their talents throughout the central Florida area. In addition, as is the custom, Santa and Mrs. Claus (OP Residents Gary & Sandy Nelson) made an appearance posing for photos with all the guests and passing out candy canes.
Door prizes were presented to all those in attendance and all ladies are looking forward to next year’s event.  A special thanks to Committee members chaired by Sharron Albert and Diane Volko who work very hard planning for this occasion.
