Opening ceremony held at Cal Ripken World Series

10-year-old baseball tourney in Ocala

The Cal Ripken Baseball World Series, featuring 10 teams from all over the U.S., is being played at the Rotary Sports Complex in Ocala.

At the completion of pool play, the host team from Ocala and a team from West Raleigh, North Carolina, were unbeaten and seeded first in the single elimination finals, which start Thursday, Aug. 15, and conclude Saturday, Aug. 17.

The team from Newtown, Connecticut, was eliminated with a 1-3 record.
