Free Enterprise Golf Tournament

Ocala Palms Golf & Country Club hosted the Free Enterprise Open Golf Tournament on April 16th. The tournament benefits the Florida Council on Economic Education, which provides programs free of charge to students and teachers from K-12.  These programs help teach economic literacy and financial responsibility.

Thanks to the 100 players, 40 sponsors, and many volunteers the tournament was a tremendous success raising over $5,000 for the FCEE.

Highlights of the tournament included the pancake breakfast to begin the day, a chance to win a golf car courtesy of E-Z-G0 Textron, a shot for a Million Dollars and an awards luncheon catered by Blanca’s Café.

While no one was able to have a hole-in-one, Bobby Bolomey with a closest to the pin shot of 4 feet 7 inches did attempt the million dollar shot.  Bobby made an admirable shot onto the green with the crowd cheering but came up short of the million $ hole-in-one.

Tournament winners were the team of Mike Scarangella, Wendell Beliveau, Mike Tabone, and Jeff Haney in a shootout over 2nd place team Ron Holm, Joe Dedics, Tom Hopkins, and Rich Stricklin.  Second flight winners were Mickey Wesnofske, Bill Baer, Bill Newton, and Vance Zeek. Third flight winners were Richard Deem, Fred Husen, Ed Wanat, and Dick Mix.  The mixed team division was won by John and Steve Cox and Ed and Kelly Upper. Second flight winners were Harvey and Susan Ziel and John and Judy Mitton.

The Florida Council on Economic Education and tournament Chairman Sherry Fies extend a heartfelt thank you to all sponsors, players, and volunteers and look forward to next year’s event.
