Appleton artistry evening

The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, will host “Artistry in Motion,” an evening of artful Dining, Friday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m. at National Parts Depot, 900 S.W. 38th Ave., Ocala.
Enjoy an evening at National Parts Depot surrounded by an eclectic, thoughtful collection of more than 125 impressive automobiles, ranging from classic to contemporary. Also see the Schmidt family’s equally impressive Kodak collection featuring an extensive array of vintage cameras, accessories and memorabilia.
Featured artwork includes black-and-white landscape photography by the late Herbert C. Burkholz, as well as the work of Meagan Chaney Gumpert, a studio artist who combines glass, steel, clay and found objects to create beautifully crafted objects.

Pediatrics firm holds fair

Premier Pediatrics will hold its third annual Community Fair on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crossroads Church lot, 8070 SW 60th Ave. in Ocala.
There will be 20 local organizations participating so far, who will be informing the guests about their services and organizations, as well as running fun activities for the kids. So far, we have organizations such as University of Florida Shands, the Big Red Bus, Easy Street, Stevie Bs, Healthy Smiles Dental, Children’s Medical Services, the Early Learning Coalition, the Center for the Blind, and many more. We will have a DJ and awesome games such as a soccer game and water activities as well as a bounce house. Our providers and staff will all be present at this event. There will be a raffle with prizes as well.

Breakfast at Ocala West

Ocala West UMC community wide breakfast prepared by the men’s fellowship will be held from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14 and is only $6 for all you care to eat.
A varied selection awaits everyone:  ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, French toast, waffles, pancakes, corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, fruit cup, juice and coffee. Breakfast proceeds benefit the many charities supported by the OWUMC Men’s Fellowship.

Live auction at church

Live auction will take place at First Congregational Church on Saturday, May 14 from 2-5 p.m., at the Enrichment Center, 7171 SW State Road 200.  
Be sure to join us for all the fun and excitement when the doors open promptly at 2 p.m., to view the items and review the catalogue.  There will be something for everyone to bid on such as “select” household items and furnishings, restaurant and golf certificates, hand-made quilts, and so much more. Bidding begins at 3 p.m.; refreshments will be served.  Payment is by cash or check only (no credit cards).

Lions Club yard sale

The Ocala 200 Lions Club is having a yard sale, Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Friendship Plaza, State Road 200 at the Bank of the Ozarks. Food will be available for purchase. Rain date May 21.

Wednesday, May 18

Job fair for college grads

The College of Central Florida in partnership with CareerSource Citrus, Levy, Marion will host the Hire-A-Grad Job Fair Wednesday, May 18, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Webber Center at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
Participants will have an opportunity to meet employers from a variety of industries that are actively seeking college and vocational program graduates.
The fair is open to all degree, certificate and technical graduates from CF and other local colleges. Professional attire is required, and the event is free of charge.

The Marion County Genealogical Society will meet on Thursday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at the Marion County Public Library, 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala. A brief business meeting will be followed by a presentation by Kathryn I. Knight on “Writing your family history while listening to your inner voice.”

University women to meet

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will meet on Saturday, May 21, at 11:30 a.m. at the Stone Creek Grille, 9676 SW 62nd Loop, Ocala for their regular monthly meeting. The restaurant will be providing a High Tea event.
The speaker for this month will be Maybelle Roberts, a long term member of the group who will present the history of the AAUW Ocala branch.
All women are welcome to attend this meeting and learn more about the organization. To attend, please call 352-237-4889 to make a reservation so we can advise the restaurant as to how many will be in attendance.

New date for jazz group

The Ocala Jazz Society will be back with Swing, Big Band, Dixieland, 50s and all your favorites on Sunday, May 22, a new date, from 2 - 5 p.m. at VFW Post 4781, 9401 SW 110th St., across from Oak Run. The band performs on the third Sunday of each month.

Brian Free and Assurance

Brian Free and Assurance will appear at Christ’s Church of Marion County on Friday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m.
The group has a mission to lift up Jesus Christ through their music, to see souls come to know the Lord as Savior and to be an encouragement to Believers across the nation and abroad. They believe in helping others grow in their walk with the Lord by forming relationships with their fans and investing in them at concerts.  Everything is done for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Brian, Bill and Mike are passionate about their calling and they are unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  
No tickets are required for this concert;  a love offering will be received.

Barbecue and auction

The annual St. Jude Catholic Community barbecue and auction will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall at 443 Marion Oaks Drive. Cost is $8 per person for a meal consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw and beverage. Tickets are available after all Masses as well as in the parish office.
