Dementia 101 at Freedom Library

On May 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. a Caregivers Workshop at Freedom Public Library, 5870 SW 95th St.,Ocala, a new series starts with the lead off session titled "Dementia 101- What Is It and How Do I deal With It."

As always there is no fee, excellent materials provided, and workshop participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and connect with others dealing with similar challenges.

University Women to meet

The American Association of Women (AAUW) Ocala Branch will meet at the Marion County Public Library, 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, (Room A) at 1 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting.

This month the members will welcome and become acquainted with the four seventh grade girls, from Marion County who were approved to go to Tech Trek Camp at Palm Beach State College campus, Boca Raton, June11-17.

All are welcome to attend this meeting and meet these young STEM students and learn about the AAUW organization. For further information please call 352-237-4889.

DAR Rainbow River Chapter

The Rainbow River Chapter DAR will meet on Saturday, May 20, between 9:30 - 11 a.m.

The meeting is now held in the Sheriff's building at 9048 SW State Rd 200 with access on right side of the building

Sunday, May 21

Author, historian to speak at museum

Author, historian and long-time Marion County resident Annabelle Leitner will present a program at the Marion County Museum of History and Archaeology on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m.

The program, Trails, Tales and Where, will discuss transportation before cars and how farmers got their crops to markets, tales of life on the farm and lost farming communities so important in the early days of Marion County.

Leitner was born in Gainesville but lived in Shiloh in Marion County her entire life.

The program is free for members and $5 for non-members.

The museum is at the McPherson Governmental Complex at 307 SE 26th Terrace, Ocala.

Jazz monthly event canceled

The Ocala Jazz Society is canceling its performance for Sunday, May 21 due to a conflict with use of the VFW Hall. We regret any inconvenience. The band will be back in June and we look forward to entertaining you then.

Forty and Eight to meet

The 40/8 will hold its monthly meeting on May 22 at 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Bank of The Ozarks building at the entrance to the Top of The World on State Road 200.

Come early to enjoy light refreshments and fellowship with other veterans.

Registered Nurses Retired to meet

The RNR (Registered Nurses Retired) organization of Citrus and Marion counties will have their next meeting on Monday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at Inverness Golf and Country Club, 3150 S. Country Club Drive in Inverness. We invite all retired and semi-retired RNs who have an interest in informative medical topic speakers and also the company of fellow nurses to consider joining us.

Breast Cancer Support Group


The SOS (Sisterhood of Survivors) Breast Cancer Support Group meets the last Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. at Ocala West UMC in the Chapel, Room 235, 9330 SW l105th St.

Our meeting on Tuesday, May 30 will be a presentation and discussion of the current activities and projects the American Cancer Society is actively involved with and how we can interact with ACS efforts.
